Drive-in. No. Ride-in.

That's how they do it in North Texas. At America's Favorite Drive-In.

Moth.

Photobucket

Found this guy in the garage the other day. Nature is awesome. How could something so tiny (well, 4 inches...that's big for a moth) get the most perfect and beautiful camouflage design?

Ray Ban Reflect.

Somewhere on the Great Ocean Road we pulled the car over and stopped at a look out point. Joy and I weren't so interested in the view to feel the need to get out of the car and take pictures, but Brian did, so we remained in the front seats while he did his thing. Joy and I were just chatting, when I happened to glance at my sunglasses that were laying on the dashboard.
The lenses reflected us all perfectly!
There's Brian on the outside taking his pictures and me with the camera and Joy in the car.
Magic!

Bob-catting skills...

So, it's been awhile since I've reported on my dad doing something completely ridiculous. Usually there's an everyday display of his outstanding mental capabilities, but this one, ladies and gents, takes the cake.

He called me out of a deep sleep to come take a picture of something.
"Bring your camera!"
Knowing his track record I asked, "Did you find a snake?"
In a bashful little voice he goes,
"Quit asking questions and get out here!"
As I walked out my eyes were still trying to focus, so I wasn't sure what I was seeing, but when they finally did focus, I found this:

We're building a new shed out back for which we needed to rent a bobcat. Dad figured while the builders weren't using it he might as well get some long awaited work done, aka, pulling fence posts that have been in the ground 30 years. Only, the fence post didn't want to budge for the bobcat, so as he was trying to pull up, the wheels slid back and he came within a few feet of being on his face...Excellent!

Look, even Sophie's like, "Really? Really?"

Excellent bob-catting skills, right? Right?!

25 Random Things About Me

So...This was on Facebook. Thought I'd put it on here, too. What the hey, right?!

25 Random Things.

1. Hi, my name is K, and I am a cookie dough addict. -Hi, K.-

2. I am a master creep artist. Meaning I have ninja style skills in creeping up on people and scaring them. Boo!

3. I have nightmares about getting married. I don't even have a boyfriend.

4. I was in the Science Olympiad in middle school. For two years. Went to Nationals both years. Chicago and Spokane, respectively. Rock on.

5. I have nightmares about my nephew cutting my hair, as I sleep, with orange scissors.

6. My hair is my greatest vanity.

7. Seven is my lucky number.

8. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book. Loved the Keira Knightley movie. "Mrs. Darcy!"

9. This year I became a sunscreen freak. SPF 30, every day, rain or shine. In the hopes that when I'm 50 I look 35. My hypothetical husband who I'm hypothetically afraid of marrying will hypothetically thank me for this.

10. I have a new found addiction to cute winter hats and scarves. I want to buy them all.

11. I white girl dance to hip hop songs. It is not graceful.

14. "So's your face" is my ultimate come back. As in: "You're stupid." - "So's your face."

16. I love Scrabble. And the dictionary. Nerds unite.

17. I'm seriously considering buying the 18,000 piece puzzle I saw in the store the other day.

19. Why did God make cats? Gross.

20. I want a dachshund puppy. Really bad. And then a German Sheppard. And then a Corgie. And then another dachshund. And then a blood hound. In that order. And then another dachshund.

21. Team Edward. Duh.

22. Benjamin Linus should be shot. In the FACE. Google the name if you're completely LOST. Ha.

23. There's going to be a Steinway baby grand in the sun room of my dream house. So there.

24. Totally going to go to Thailand to ride an elephant some day.

25. Purell is my friend. We're in close contact several times a day. Because we're both germaphobes.

"Say what?!"

I think I have a super power. Super Hearing! But it only applies in eavesdropping situations. Allow me to explain.
In normal conversations my hearing is average to sub-par. I usually have to ask, "What?" or "Huh?" a few times during any given conversation because at some point my ears just can't decipher what message left a person's mouth. So much so that friends often make fun of me for being deaf. I don't know what it is about close range conversation that makes my ears malfunction. If I miss out on part of your monologue, it's either one of two things. Maybe sometimes both.
One: I have an attention span of a two year old and if the crap subject you decide to converse to me about isn't uber-riveting, the sanity preservation department in my brain puts my ears into automatic shutdown mode and then I have to work to override the order to catch up to what you're talkin' 'bout, therefore I have to ask you again, "Wait...what?"
Two: My hearing is genuinely awful and I really didn't understand what you just said.
There is one situation when my hearing is absolutely brilliant. The aforementioned eavesdropping situation. It doesn't matter if you're behind a shut door, five tables over in a crowded restaurant, across the room, or across the house...if my ears pick up the slightest hint of an argument, or a juicy-fied scandal, consider them tuned in. Don't think I go around purposely eavesdropping. No. It's not my fault the super ears pick up on gossip keywords like "cheating manwhore" or "skankified slut" wherever they go. They just do. And once they start listening, they don't stop until every last detail is divulged, only then do they move on. And unless you happen to be speaking in a nano-whipsper, your story is mine. Beware the super ears.
Okay. So maybe it's not a super power, so much as selective listening. Maybe?

My 2 month headache.

I, crazy person, thought it would be a fun and challenging idea to work a 3000 piece puzzle. Three THOUSAND. Yeah. Translation = headache! All the pieces look exactly. The freaking. SAME. It's going to be a 4 foot by 3 foot-ish Caribbean masterpiece when it's done, which will hopefully be by the end of the year. Two months to finish should be plenty of time, you say? Well. Considering that I spent 3 hours putting a section of 50 pieces together, and spent an hour staring at 200 pieces of just plain blue and got nothing done, I think two months will be a bless-ed miracle. I've already spent two months on it, and it's about half done, and even then I've only done the pieces that had identifying markers on them. I've not even attempted the pieces that have no distinguishable characteristics. Consider that I actually got this thing 2 years ago, opened it, tried to separate the colors, couldn't put anything together, put it back in the box, had it sit on the shelf for 2 years, reopened it 2 months ago because I was bored on a Saturday and now I've done too much to put it away again and I WILL. Stubbornly. Freaking. FINISH IT. I'm a nerd, yes. I'm doing a 3000 piece puzzle to torture myself. And when I DO finish it, oh I am SO not taking it apart. It's going to get slathered in 2 quarts of puzzle glue and be stuffed in a giant frame so I can have a piece of giant artwork hanging on my wall so everyone can revel in my nerd-dom. Yeah. Like I said. Crazy.

Whoops?

Did y'all hear that the 4 corners monument is in the wrong spot?! It's 2 miles from where it should be, according to some surveyors with their fancy shmancy satellite mapping and imaging system. That means that millions of people, including my dad and myself, thought they were in 4 places at once, but actually weren't. Bummer. Even though it's in the wrong spot, the 4 states have legally adopted the monument as the meeting places of the corners, so to them it doesn't really matter. So they say. Read the MSN article, if you want. That place was literally in the middle of NO where. I still enjoy the memory, though.
